New frontiers of deforestation - Breakfast meeting
Beurs van Berlage
Amsterdam
In the context of the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR), the emergence of new frontiers of deforestation linked to cocoa production in West Africa is becoming an issue of growing concern. As cocoa expansion reaches ecological limits in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, countries such as Liberia are increasingly attracting cocoa producers, posing significant risks to remaining primary forests. We are pleased to invite you to a breakfast meeting focusing on recent developments in Liberia, the implications for EUDR implementation, and the roles that public authorities, private sector actors, and civil society can play in preventing deforestation while supporting sustainable cocoa production. During the event, Bakary Traoré, executive director of IDEF, will present the key findings of its independent monitoring report on cocoa production and deforestation in Liberia. This presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and a common breakfast, providing an informal setting for further exchange and discussion among participants. The objective of this discussion is to foster dialogue among key stakeholders and to encourage concrete actions to protect forests at an early stage.
